SENIOR PIPELINE ENGINEER

SENIOR PIPELINE ENGINEER

Reference number: AE/SPL-ENG/603
Published on: May 7th, 2014
Commencement of work: June / July 2014
Duration: 2 years with an extension option
This position’s main objective is to lead the pipeline engineering activities as part of CLIENT deep water development project.

Job Description

  • Incumbent is expected to define a broad range of quality pipeline engineering input towards CLIENT pipeline requirements, encompassing assessment of appropriate pipeline development concepts and selection in the earlier phase of the development, technical definition of pipeline engineering scope of work and requirements, defining boundaries of risks and flexibilities, as well as input to the pipeline contracting and execution strategies. In addition, incumbent shall also be required to lead the coordination of the Geotechnical data acquisition activity, as part of defining the likely CLIENT pipeline routing and other subsea facilities placement for KME development.
  • The job scope will span from the initial Concept Select (pre-FEED) through the Conceptual Design (FEED), detailed design & execution phases of the CLIENT development
  • Validate the suite of feasibility study pipeline infrastructure options. Understand own discipline drivers and interfaces with other disciplines (Flow Assurance, Subsea, Brownfield Engineering, HSSE, etc.) and fine tune the Pre-FEED/SELECT phase planning.
  • Develop and mature all pipeline options (Hot water bundle (including deep water connection), PIP, Electrical heating options, flexible pipe and hard pipe) taking into account the deep-water setting of KME gas field development, planned drill centre locations, flow assurance, operational constraints, shallow hazards/seabed topography & future field expansion capability. Develop differentiators (risk, cost, constraints and flexibility in application) to help SELECT a forerunning concept.
  • Incorporate other deep water gas project experiences / lessons learnt for a safe, robust & cost effective approach given the constraints of local settings in North Sabah, Malaysia.
  • Lead the framing and development of pipeline infrastructure contracting & execution strategies appropriate for CLIENT project setting and seek synergies with the broader CLIENT, partner and 3rd party activities in the region.
  • Identify the applicable engineering standards (technical & functional specifications), construction standards, safety/environmental regulations & material specifications for the required pipeline systems (including the topsides interface equipment and subsea)
  • Define the Cost, Time & Resource (CTR) requirements to capture the scope of work related to CLIENT project’s pipeline design activities for 3rd party involvement (mid-Concept Select, FEED & Detailed Design )
  • Support pipeline system cost estimates & equipment delivery lead times as input towards CLIENT project budget & schedule. Leverage where possible/required frame agreements with partners.
  • Lead communication & interfaces with other CLIENT project disciplines & vendors to verify and ensure pipeline related requirements are well understood & properly accounted for by all concerned.
  • Lead the coordination works necessary for Geotechnical data acquisition work in 2015 to underpin the pipeline route selection and likely locations of subsea facilities placement for CLIENT development.
  • Monitor & be of sufficient experience and knowledge level to technically assure/approve pipeline engineering design/procurement/installation documentation while ensuring technical & safety specifications are in compliance to industry regulations/ standards & CLIENT requirements.
  • Assist the preparation, checking and approving of procedures particularly with pipeline system safety & environmental aspects in mind. Prepared to work offshore in the appropriate later phases to ensure successful completion of the pipeline scope.
  • Incumbent will need to have a solid, diverse pipeline engineering experience & knowledge to enable him/her to develop and challenge the various pipeline concepts and discern the most appropriate for CLIENT deep-water development settings.
  • This position requires additional coordination responsibility for a Geotechnical Data acquisition program in Q2 2015, to define the pipeline route selection and subsea facilities placements for CLIENT development.
  • This position will require application of best practices/lessons learnt for an optimized CLIENT concept development and a true understanding of relative risk/flexibility.
  • Ability to manage the various interfaces between other key project disciplines ( Ranging from Subsea and Topsides Engineering & Operational Readiness personnel) to adequately define required pipeline system interfaces.
  • Incumbent will need to have sufficient depth & breadth in pipeline systems engineering to steer the contracting and execution strategies appropriate to the option/market.
  • Identify opportunities within CLIENT and other partner projects.
  • Provide technical mentoring & transfer learning’s to less experienced local staff.

Qualifications & Skills

  • BSC in Mechanical or Pipeline Engineering or equivalent or other Engineering certification with extensive experience in pipeline engineering roles.
  • 12+ years’ experience in pipeline systems engineering, inclusive of project execution involvement during construction, installation and commissioning.
  • Previous work experience in deep-water field development (particularly of gas fields) is considered an advantage, as is direct involvement in the specific pipeline solutions being considered at feasibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of the pipeline engineering (both conceptual and detailed engineering,) industry standards, practices, procedures, codes, standards, and regulations (encompassing engineering, safety &environmental, construction and installation)
  • Good communication skills, mentoring experience, and proactive commitment to HSE.
